If you’re like me, you’ve gotten work published before. Small things in small campus publications, local magazines, tiny literary journals with a circulation of, maybe, 100. Hey, I’m not complaining, it’s a start and it gives me something to pass around at family reunions.
But if you’re like me and want to get a bit of a bigger audience then the Glimmer Train Short Story Award for New Writers is for you.
What They Want: Short fiction from 1,500-12,000 words. Not interested in middle-grade or YA stories. CANNOT be previously published. This even means being previously posted on your blog!
Who They Want It From: Writers whose fiction has not been presented in a print publication with a circulation over 5,000
When They Want It: by August 31st
How They Want It: via their online submission manager.
Multiple Submissions Allowed? Yes.
Entry Fee? $15
Prize? First place wins $1,200, publication, and 20 copies of the issue. Second place wins $500 and third place wins $300.
Submission Response Time? You’ll hear back by October 30
This seems to be a rather regular contest–they seem to host it a few times a year–so even if you don’t have anything you want to send in now, keep this opportunity in mind! I’m going to go put it on my writing calendar pronto!
Nice!
I’ll have to check it out!
